Cutting Board Care Instructions

Thank you so much for purchasing a cutting board from us!

Cleaning Instructions: Clean the board immediately after use with soap and hot water. Use a cloth or gentle, non-scratch dish sponge to scrub, if needed. Ensure you rinse all soap and food residue from the board. Once clean, immediately and thoroughly wipe the entire board dry with a soft towel.

Storage Instructions: Store the board on its side, to ensure the board gets air around the whole surface, to ensure the drying process is complete and to help prevent bacterial growth.

Stain Removal: If the board becomes stained and it does not wash off with cleaning as described above, it can be frustrating. If the stain is stubborn, try using a mix of coarse salt, baking soda, and a bit of lemon juice to make a paste. Rub a generous amount of the paste into the affected area, working it into the stain with a non-abrasive pad or sponge. Then, clean again as described above.

As you use your board, it will start to show knife marks and start to look dry.

We recommend using the Walrus Oil collection of products to re-condition the wood and bring it back to like new condition. We use these products to finish all of our cutting board before we offer them for sale.

Sand the cutting board with 220 grit sandpaper or steel wool. After sanding, apply a thin layer of Walrus Cutting Board Oil. Allow about 24 hours for oil to dry, then wipe with a soft cloth to remove excess oil, and it’s ready to use!

For extra water protection and shine, you can also apply Walrus Oil Wood Wax after the oil dries and the board has been wiped down. Allow the wax to cure for about 24 hours, then wipe with a soft cloth to remove any extra wax.
